HIDDEN SALTS:
Did you know that a serving of Rice Crispies or Cornflakes contains more salt than a packet of crisps??
New guidelines reveal that children should consume no more than 1750mgs of salt per day.

FOOD SALT CONTENT
Bread (all types) 500mg per slice
Cheddar Cheese 335mg in 50gm
Cornflakes 900mg per bowl
Crisps 675mg per bag
Sausages 1250mg per 50gm
Fish Fingers 475mg per 50gm (2FF)

HIDDEN SUGARS:
Sugar has a powerful depressive effect on immune system, so if your child is suffering from frequent infections, please cut down on his sugar.
Often sugar is hidden in daily foods.

FOOD SERVING SIZE QUANTITY
Fruit Yogurt 1 x small tub 4 teaspoons
Baked beans 4 Tablespoons 2 ½ teaspoons
Tinned Sweetcorn 1/3 Tin 2 teaspoons
Milk Chocolate small bar 6 ½ teaspoons!!
Packet Smarties small box 7 ½ teaspoons!!
Ice Cream per scoop 2 teaspoons

LOOK OUT FOR HIDDEN SUGARS IN LABELS.
Sugar may be included in both sweet and savoury meals. It may be labeled as sucrose, glucose, maltose, dextrose, glucose syrup, lactose, corn syrup, hydrolysed starch, fructose or concentrated fruit juice.
NB: Remember that 1 level teaspoon of sugar (5ml) is equivalent to 4 g in weight.
